21 days to build or break a habit and 90 days to create a lifestyle notes.

Have you ever tried to change a habit and find it difficult to do so? Then you must try the 21/90 Rule! When I first heard about it, I was skeptical at first. But the rule sounds simple enough that I gave it a try and it completely changed my life and the way I create and develop habits.

The rule is simple: Commit to a personal goal for 21 straight days. During 21 days of this commitment, you are in the process of creating a habit. Then after three weeks, they will become a habit. Once you’ve established that habit, continue the journey for another ninety days. If you can keep this goal for three weeks and then ninety days, then it should become a permanent lifestyle change.

“The Rule implies that it takes 21 days to build or break a habit and 90 days to create a lifestyle.”

Thinking Change and Causes Subconscious Rebellion

When you think about making longterm changes, sometimes your subconscious mind can resist the change and prevent you from your goals–especially if it requires extra effort to get out of your comfort zone. However, if you create short terms goals instead, it can trick your mind to believe that the goals are easier to achieve, which makes the 21/90 days rule so successful! Think about it, if you tell yourself to do something for 365 days compared to 21 days, which one seems more do-able? More importantly, which goal is more enjoyable? Doesn’t one year of doing the same thing sound super boring? After 21 days of challenge, you will realize how “21 days wasn’t that bad!” and will make the process of going for the 90 days much easier. Therefore, the 21/90 rule challenge is easier to keep you motivated and focused.

How to Set Goals

Learn how to smash your goals by creating new habits
According to TEAMKING247 BLOG, here are the top important 5 steps to help you formulate goals that you can accomplish:

Set a goal – determine what it is you want to accomplish. It could something personal or business-related. Write it and the steps you plan to take, down so that you have something in writing to review each day.

Find a strategy – a strategy could be: a marketing plan, lifestyle change, etc. that will help you accomplish or get closer to your goal. If it’s something that will help promote/grow your business, then identify the tools you need to get the job done.

Focus on your goals – commit to going hard for the first 21 days. That’s the first part of the 21/90 rule. If you do something for 21 days straight, it then becomes a habit. Commit to doing the task/lifestyle change every day for the next 21 days so that it becomes a habit.

Repeat for the next 90 days – Yep, you read that right, 90 DAYS (which if you think about it brings you to the end of the 2nd quarter)! Anything that we set our minds to do & do it consistently for 90 days then becomes a lifestyle change. Hence, the “2190” rule.

Work Hard, Play Hard

Most importantly, don’t forget to rest and take care of yourself. Many people assume that working hard can’t include fun–I disagree. One of the things that keeps me motivated even more while on my 21/90 day challenge is to actually reward myself for the accomplished journey. For instance, one of my goals during the 21/90 day is to commit to going to the gym three times a week. When this is accomplished, I reward myself with a little me-time by getting registered massage therapy (RMT). Especially being in the gym more often, my body will get sore; therefore have a personal RMT can ease chronic symptoms (plus I can also claim it!). Being able to treat myself with some me-time can truly enhance my journey of creating a lifetime habit. So what’s your excuse? Start your life-changing journey today!
