Type of Massage

Western massage will typically focus on a specific area of the body where the guest has a given concern. Thai massage always performs work on the entire body addressing the guest’s overall well being to help the body function at its highest levels.

Additionally, Thai massage uses point pressure to open energy lines or “Sens” in the body as diagrammed throughout Asian culture. The energy work is combined with stretching techniques to open the guests body creating a relaxing and simultaneously invigorating experience. A Thai massage practitioner may utilize their hands, elbows, knees, or feet throughout the massage. Rest assured Thai massage is never painful. Western massage mainly focuses on kneading of muscular tissue through compression and various hand movements.

Thai massage has been practiced for well over 2500 years, kept in its traditional form, and is becoming increasingly popular in the West.

Thai Herbal massage is another popular type of Thai treatment, and is a truly unique experience. Stretching, point pressure and hot herbal compresses combine to provide the utmost in muscular and mental relaxation. The blend of traditional Thai herbs used in this massage has a relaxing and simultaneously invigorating effect on the body and mind, soothing sore and overworked muscles, while giving a boost for the body’s energy level.

Hot compresses are also excellent for stiff, sore or pulled muscles and ligaments, back pain, arthritis, chronic pain or injury, disorders of the internal organs, skin diseases, migraines, and chronic stress or anxiety. Herbs for the compresses are blended with attention to the therapeutic needs of the individual, and are heated in an herbal steamer. Hot herb bundles are applied to the body during a massage session.

Neti massage is the process of cleansing and purifying the nasal passage by using gentle pressure and heat from the fingers to release buildup in the sinuses to promote balanced breathing.

Before Your Appointment

Expect a sense of the ancient healing touch of Asia, the natural way of health and well-being. We invite you to relax and unwind in the ritual of the spa. We’re here to guide you along in your experience, as well as show you how to take the spa experience home with you. This is your time to focus on you and discover a wonderful way of life.

We always suggest that each of our guests start out with a 90-minute Traditional Thai massage. In Thailand a Thai massage can last 2 hours or more depending on the individual’s needs. We like to start each of our guests with at least a 90-minute Traditional Thai massage so that there is time to perform bodywork over the entire body and have time to focus on the areas that need more attention.

The Thai understand that a problem in the back, for example, is related to issues elsewhere in the body. In order to fully address a problem area in the back it’s important to also spend time on the legs, arms and neck. We have seen significant results that benefit our guests when they schedule sessions for 90-minute or greater.

We recommended that you do not bring your valuables with you, as all jewelry needs to be removed prior to spa treatments. No responsibility will be taken by the spa for any loss of valuables.

We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your treatment time. This will allow you the full benefit of your treatment and the spa’s calming surroundings. Arriving late will simply limit the time for your treatment, lessening its effectiveness and your pleasure. Your treatment will end on time so that the next guest is not delayed, however the full price will be charged.

You should expect a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Come dressed in loose fitting clothing like pajamas. You can also allow time prior to your session for changing into traditional Thai massage clothing that we provide.

The massage session will be performed on a thin floor mattress or on the table to allow maximum comfort and mobility during the session.

At the end of your massage you will be completely relaxed and refreshed. A number of guests report that they have fallen asleep or are amazed at how relaxed they became with the progression of the massage. You should always double your water intake for 48 hours after your session to help the detoxification process of your muscles and report any medical conditions to your practitioner prior to your session. Try to refrain from eating at least 1-hour prior to your session.

When receiving a facial, your esthetician will respect your time and relaxation while talking only at specific points throughout the treatment. She will explain the treatments you have chosen and can also explain the difference in other treatments at the beginning of the session. Coming to Sabai Thai Spa for a facial treatment is just as much about the mind as it is about the body. Your aesthetician will help you drift into a full relaxation state by remaining quiet but please feel free to ask any questions or mention any concerns of focus you might want to share. She will take her lead from you.

Comedones (blackheads) exist in every skin and your esthetician will spend time required on extractions. Areas such as the sides and top of the nose, forehead, on and under the chin, sides of cheeks, eyebrows, behind and in the ears, and neck will all be examined closely.

It is recommended that men shave a few hours prior to their appointment time, rather than immediately before.

Our spa environment is one of relaxation and harmony. In order to ensure a tranquil atmosphere we kindly request that Spa guests refrain from using mobile phones and speak in a gentle voice. For your maximum pleasure, and to ensure everyone’s safety, small children and all pets are not allowed in the spa.

Cell phone in the spa: In order to respect the relaxation of all our clients, we kindly request that you turn your phone to silent when you are in the spa’s open manicure, pedicure or lounge areas and answer your phone only in emergencies. If other clients are in the immediate area and you are on your phone and it isn’t an emergency, we will ask that you end your call.

We request that you turn off your cell prior to entering our treatment rooms for a facial or massage.

Please feel free to wear whatever you feel comfortable in to the spa. When you arrive we will give you slippers to wear in the spa.
